It was a beautiful—though somewhat bittersweet—afternoon.
The final day of the closing exhibition at Galerie “De Ziener” in Asse had arrived. Curated by Dirk D’herde, the show marked the end of a remarkable gallery that, for nearly 40 years, had followed its own idiosyncratic path—showcasing both established names and emerging talent, many of whom would go on to become prominent artists. The gallery was known for its honesty and integrity, thanks to its founder, Jan De Smedt, and his wife, Monique.
It was truly a special time. I had the privilege of working with this gallery—first as an artist, and later, from 1987 onward, as a graphic and editorial designer.
Today, Not Yet. Publishers is helping preserve the gallery’s legacy by including all of its editions in its collection.
